Poetry and Music - The Infinite - December 5th

This month, Suddenly is happy to welcome regulars, newcomers and special guest DJ Zenway! Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Bring and friend and be well on your journey.

Last month, Ayo wrote a touching piece inspired by Suddenly. Her friend Elvia came to visit from the I.E. with big ass books of poetry including phenomenal tribute poems to latin american writers. Dia sang to us decked out in a very stylish floor length zebra print coat. Hustle Diva gave us some food for thought. Armease Scoggins, reluctant to the mic, stirred it up with lines about about cake, men folk and bedazzlement.

There was also an agreement to create Suddenly, the chapbook and cd. Works to be featured will include:

Mr. Mosquito
Dancing left and right
Drilling into me

My flesh now itchy
Aloe vera shall treat me nicely
It might be kind to let you live

And forgive
For what?
For now
I am itchy

I roar with the best of the lioness in sound (2x)
And we roar like sweet belly music
Hungry for life, yes we use it
Always lessin we lose it
To the silent void

Hush
Your mind
Your soul
Your heart, you're ready you know
You can feel it
Breath slow (2x)
Now go

Slowly into your season
Step up
Step out
Step in...to the reason

You've been working hard and long
You've been running long and strong
No more dreamin on and on
You're on

Poetry and Music - The Infinite - November 7th

On the first Sunday in October, in recognition of GLOBAL and National Arts Month, Jessica Irving, Autumn Brown, Ayo (Eye O), Liz, Dia Bey and Moor Love aligned artistic forces at The Infinite Yoga Studio where they kicked off the return of Suddenly.

The open-mic and arts trader event hosted by MsTmusze (Misty Muse) was well received and spiritually uplifting for the small and powerful group of women that attended. Each participated in rotating rounds of individually sharing poetry and song. There was also a moving group performance of an invigorating choral song titled Best of The Lioness. The topic of the night mirrored the illuminated heart beautifully painted on the wall which served as a welcoming backdrop for one long time writer, first time performer who felt comfortable enough to debut her poetry aloud.

Going forward, venue host MsT is anticipating these women's return and increased participation of poets, singers, vendors and art seeking audiences living in and near Long Beach.

Tips for those planning to come out are:

Early Arrival Recommended
Take Public Transportation or Carpool
Parking is in the Walmart Lot Across The Street
All Donations Benefit The Infinite Yoga Studio
Open-Mic List Opens at 5:30pm

Additionally, for those contemplating sharing their work. Know who you are. For some, writing is a very personal process that is kept to oneself. For others, those who have any inkling {no matter how small} to share their work, writing is very much about being a path through which messages are destined for those who will hear.

Suddenly is an open space.

The next event is on November 7th.

Til then and always,

Be well on your journey.

Spoken Word - Soul Music - Sunday - January 31, 2010

Suddenly #1 was the #1 Sunday Pine Avenue Attraction

Pedestrians and drivers cruisin down Pine could not resist stretching their necks and tuning their ears to the soulful sounds eminating out of Exhibit A this past Sunday.

For starters, there was the bass thumpin tribute to soul singer Darondo (Let My People Go) bouncin off the walls while TinderBox visual artist Margie painted aqua boogie'n squids on her canvas. Later there was some signifyin harp playin and guitar strummin by none other than local harmonica player Soul Blue.

There were also the oral vibrations from the rebel Isaac Sundiata, bringin it for the love of Long Beach Impacc, aw suky suky Lethia Cobbs, the lovely Carolyn Price and mister Pablo Mathis who had this critically essential public service announcement to share:

Magnums are the key to the kitty factory.

Til next time and all the time, be well on your journey. Hopefully yours will bring you to next week's edition of Suddenly.
